EPISTEMOLOGICAL POSSIBILITIES OF APOPHATICAL COGNITION (THE PROBLEMS OF METHODOLOGICAL BASES OF RUSSIAN RELIGIOUS PHILOSOPHY)

Abstract

Though having got an impulse to its development in domestic philosophical and theological culture of the Middle Ages the apophatical cognition as «De docta ignorantia» nevertheless correlates with the principle of symbolical realism which is the object of systematic thinking at the stage of the developed philosophical systems in the late 19th century and is treated as "threading reality by Incomprehensible” (S.L. Frank) and as a teaching about the phenomena of apophatical nature (A.F. Losev). The only way to metaphysical speculation was not a mere negation in its ordinary, logical sense, but special ultralogical overcoming of the very form of category-based cognition.
